Bamboozle 2009

I’ve always wanted to see No Doubt. I was going to see if they’re going to play in NY but Ryan Muir tweeted me about the Bamboozle. I couldn’t believe this was happening basically in my backyard.

It was a cold rainy day, and because of that I hesitated up until the last minute. Then I said fuck it, took off, went for it, and it felt good.

When I got there, Demi Lovato was playing. Very professional. Sometimes too professional. You must wonder: does she really mean all the things she says in between the songs, or are they scripted and written by the Disney folks?

Face to Face was up next. For some reason I felt at home with the crowd. Trever Keith said before playing Disconnected, “If you don’t know this song, ask your uncle”. It was hilarious… and a bit sad at the same time. Oh who fuckin cares anyway, it’s a great song!

I overheard Rise Against, sounded like crap for some reason. So instead I went to see a bunch of random local bands. I regret missing Care Bears on Fire. Then it was time for No Doubt.

No Doubt was great. They had good sound, good lights, good everything. They played all the songs I wanted to hear (pretty much all the hit single songs). They had two extra multi-instrumentalists doing all the horns/keyboards/backup vocals.

Gwen Stefani looked amazing. I don’t care who says, she did not have two babies seriously. She is one of the few people that can be both hot and cool at the same time. I think she’s amazing.

During the show she mentioned that the reason why she decided to get back with No Doubt and start touring was to get that creativity back so they can hopefully make another album. Cheers to that. They have been one of the best, versatile songwriters in the past. I’m sure they’ll continue that tradition.

I didn’t mind the rain after all – it cooled me down when things got hot. So glad this happed so close to me. So glad I didn’t miss it.
