Election Night 2008
I was ready to go home early and watch the election night on TV, but I had to change my mind when I got to the bus terminal. There were lines everywhere, I couldn’t even find which one led to my gate. So I decided to go for a walk, and it happened to be a pleasant one.
I stopped at Times Square where CNN has set up screens for live broadcast. The red steps of TKTS were full of people, mostly Obama supporters who were cheering each time a state result was announced.
I moved on to Rockefeller Center where NBC has set up its tent for live coverage. They had balconies for Obama and McCain with scorecards. It was still early in the evening – the score was Obama 3 and McCain 8. Some people were nervous about it, but most people were just excited to be there.
On my way back to the bus terminal, I stopped at the Fox News headquarters. They were doing a live broadcast just outside the building. Not too many people paid attention.
When I got home and turned on the TV, Obama was leading. I decided to take a quick shower. When I got out, it was already over and McCain was making his last speech. Barack Obama was elected to become the 44th president of the United States of America.
