Setlist (Broken Social Scene @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple)
Setlist, originally uploaded by racreations.
They played for two and a half hours. This is the setlist, but I don’t recognize all the songs on here to be honest… I actually thought I heard Late Night Bedroom Rock/Shampoo Suicide but not really sure anymore.
Anyway, another fine set and another fantastic show put together. I heard Looks Just Like the Sun and Pacific Theme for the first time live, just awesome. Ibi Dreams of Pavement was turned up a notch with everyone in the temple (?) going nuts screaming out loud! The temple sort of reminded me of Webster Hall because of the balcony and the overall shape of the floor, it sounded pretty fine I should say.
I asked Brendan (Canning) why they didn’t play Chameleon – the song I love. He shrugged, “ah well, you know… what can we do”. Hope I didn’t give him the wrong impression because I was not complaining at all – I had no right to complain really. Brendan was very nice and polite to everyone.
On the way to a local bar (Smooch, I think) I also met Josh (Winstead) of Metric. He said Emily (Haines) and Jimmy (Shaw) were in the city recording some acoustic stuff. I introduced myself as just nobody, and he told me to never say that again. He cheered me up quite a bit. I offered him a beer and got a glass of red wine for Charles (Spearin). They were cooking some onions in the kitchen for the next day’s menu – it drove Charles and many other people nuts because the smell was so good.
Kevin (Drew) arrived shortly after and we said hi. I offered him a drink and really wanted to speak to him and thank him, but he seemed a bit tired. I couldn’t really blame him after all the intense singing and everything, so I decided to respect him and leave him alone. He left shortly after.
I asked Leon (Kingstone) how challenging it was to figure out the Happiness piece, and he kinda shook his head saying that it actually took days to get it perfectly (which he demonstrated again earlier that evening).
I started to get a really bad headache.. as a result of all the drinking with no food combined with preexisting exhaustion I guess. I went outside and saw Andrew (Whiteman) hanging out with some folks. I tried to listen for a bit and wanted to talk to him but by that time I was feeling pretty sick.
I decided not to disturb anyone else, so just sat outside on an empty bench for a while (I wonder if that Phil guy ever got any more autographs or other goodies from the guys). Ok now I’m just rambling… heh, after all isn’t that what blogging is for?
Anyway they were all nice and real. Oh yea, I also met Kyle (Dean Reinford) and his friends (Jarid Maged let me take that photo of the setlist above) – really cool guys as well. I met Ted (Chase) from QRO Magazine again, it’s nice to talk to him. So many nice people out there, life can be alright sometimes.
