Hannah Montana StubHub

Hannah Montana StubHub, originally uploaded by racreations.

I can’t believe this is the second most-viewed picture on my flickr.
This shit depresses me.  I think we’ve all become too spoiled, and lost touch with what “value” means.  What “value” does this present that people are paying this much money for it?  I’m not sure.

Also, not directly related, but when I look at this picture or think of StubHub I’m always reminded how expensive sports tickets have become these days.  Then I ask, “What the hell are these people paying for anyway?  To see their favorite players who make more money in one year than most people make in their lifetimes, just for throwing some balls?  Too see them spending all that money on Hummers and dog fights rather than giving back to the society?”  I’m sure there still are very good and responsible people in the sports world, but let’s face it: overall it’s just become a big corporate gambling scene.

It disturbs me that techniques such as false-dilemma (which almost qualifies as propaganda in my opinion) are so easily deployed and adapted by the general public with no real resistance.  False-dilemma, or “You’re either with us or against us” type of mentality may be fine and harmless in the world of sports since well, either way they’ll make money and move on to the next season.  What we tend to forget these days is that, in the real world it’s a bit different: people DIE because of false-dilemma!

It frightens me to see so many young people these days with very little sense of reality because of all the non-sense fantasies they’re being spoonfed as they grow.  It is much more disturbing to see older folks advocating such fantasies as if they believe in them.  C’mon old folks, you’ve been to the wars… the real life-or-death situations: you should know better!  Or maybe this whole thing is played out by the ones who never were exposed to the real world?  I cannot figure out.. it just baffles me.

These are some of the reasons why I lost interest in [spectator] sports quite some time ago.  It doesn’t look like I’ll be interested again anytime soon, unfortunately.
